Analysis of Episodes: Part 2
The second episode that I would like to analyze is the one I feel that is most significant from a ethnic point of view. Titled "blood is thicker than mud" Will and Carlton are in college and it is rush week. Carlton is excited to join a fraternity while Will is skeptic at first. They both decide to join the fraternity of Phi Beta Gamma and it is not what Carlton is accustomed to. The pledges scrub the floors, paint the frat house, and even tar the parking lot however Carlton is being worked a bit harder than everyone else including Will. The pledge leader top dog has done this purposely because he comes to realize that Carlton is from Bel-Air, has a butler and does nothing from himself as far as manual labor. Carlton is indeed a rich kid that, in the 90's, you did not see everyday from a black family. The announcement for the acceptance of the pledges has come and there is a party to celebrate. Carlton learns that he has not gotten in because of his lifestyle that leads to an epic conclusion at the frat house and at the Bel-Air mansion.
